Veil House
Case Study House #2
“Veil House’ proposes an adaptable facade comprised of retractable perforated galvanized steel screens that allow varying degrees of privacy and sun control. The inset base reinterprets the traditional rowhouse stoop and allows for the greening of the facade and street face. Interior spaces are modest in scale, but allow for an open plan fi rst fl oor with views that open to an enclosed rear garden. Upper stories house the sleeping rooms.
‘Veil House’ is a part of our ongoing case study investigation of modestly scaled housing prototypes based upon the constraints of a typical Philadelphia rowhouse lot. It is built to fi t within a 16 foot lot width and the 35 foot height of a typical three story residential block.
